Nolan's On The Scene column presents philanthropic, arts and culture happenings across Canada in a fresh new light. On The Scene is Canada's only national social column, and appears every Saturday in The Globe and Mail's Globe Style section. From fundraising galas in Toronto, politically charged functions in Ottawa to fashionable goings-on in Vancouver, Nolan travels across the country to report on the major social happenings of the moment.

Photography for the column is taken predominantly by Nolan and his approach is to candidly capture gestures and expressions that playfully illustrate the mood of the moment. Nolan's photographs have been described as genuine and refreshing and of them Nolan, who is self taught, says  "the pictures are really my honest appraisal of the people I meet on the scene".
